We recently caught up with Pete Scholz, owner, winemaker and all round great bloke for a little Q&A.
Can you tell us a little about The Willows?
Ours is a `nose to tail` approach at The Willows Vineyard. Farming our vineyard in Light Pass, making wine, running our cellar door… it`s our way of life. Light Pass, a secret pocket of the Barossa Valley, is our backyard, its rich in history with many buildings that go back to European settlement; churches, monuments, a museum and cellar doors, the village is ripe for exploring.
Our vineyards are on the banks of the North Para River where we grow single site Riesling, Semillon, Shiraz, Grenache, Cabernet & Mataro. The Willow is the home of `Bonesetter` Shiraz & The `Doctor` Sparkling Red.
Tell us something about you (or your wine) that we don’t know
Our home was once a private hospital which was run by our ancestors for over one hundred years.
What is one word that sums up Barossa?
So you’re going to a friend’s place for dinner, what drinks do you take?
Peroni Red & a good bottle of Shiraz.
Lucky you, you have been given a cloak of invisibility. Whose wine do you go and grab a bottle of at Barossa Be Consumed?
Yalumba `The Caley` Cabernet/Shiraz.
What would be your perfect night in (or your perfect night out)?
Winter/Roaring Fire/Meatballs/Shiraz/ with `Alby` our Boxer for company.
We all have a food or wine guilty pleasure. What’s yours?
Chocolate Licorice… it goes with Armagnac!
When you hit the road, what’s on the playlist?
Anything Lynard Skynard.
What grape variety or wine style most interests you at the moment?
If you could ask any three people (alive or not) to a Barossa dinner party, who gets an invite?
