Vigneron Dan Falkenberg is a man who knows wine from the soil up. Throughout his 30+ years practice in the vineyards of Eden Hall, Teusner and Stage Door Wine Co, he has developed a reputation as one of Barossa’s most forward-thinking vignerons.
Dan’s commitment to establishing environmental and financial resilience in his vineyards has earned him many accolades from his peers, including Barons of Barossa Vigneron of the Year in 2018.
With his deep knowledge of Barossa’s what it takes to make an exceptional wine, what would Dan choose to line his cellar with?
1 – LOT 30L TORBRECK LAIRD SHIRAZ IMPERIAL
Why? Why not? How can you go past a wine of this calibre from Torbreck? It’s Barossa Shiraz at its finest and certainly a massive bottle to show off to your mates while cooking a couple of tomahawks around the BBQ. Won’t empty this bottle in a hurry!!
2 – LOT 1L BAROSSA GRENACHE
Grenache has been a long favourite of mine, these wines will show the elegance and subtle power that is true “ Barossa Grenache“ and its vino-diversity from the many parishes of the Barossa.
3 – LOT 19L ULTIMATE EDEN VALLEY RIESLING COLLECTION
The best white variety ever (in my opinion) “ Eden Valley Riesling ” distinctive in their character, displaying wonderful aromatics, elegance, complexity and finesse typical of Eden Valley. A collection that is a must have for a serious Rizza drinker, won’t last long in the wine rack or the fridge.
4 – LOT 25L ST HALLETT OLD BLOCK VERTICAL TASTING WITH STUART BLACKWELL
It’s not all about the wine (well maybe a little) it’s about the experience of tasting Old block Shiraz with an iconic Winemaker Stuart Blackwell a “must do“ and one to tick of the bucket list. Stunning Shiraz from the tapestry of old vine vineyards throughout the Barossa explained by a true master of his craft.
5 – LOT 24L SEPPELTSFIELD 100 YEAR OLD TAWNY
It’s the upper echelon of finely crafted tawny and has a true cult following unrivalled, a standout for me and “ the jewel in the crown of the Barossa “
