With an Agricultural Science Degree in Oenology and Viticulture, Stuart Bourne landed in the Barossa in 2002, taking the position of winemaker at Barossa Valley Estate.
As well as making award winning red wines, he travelled extensively in both domestic and overseas markets, soon becoming one of our region’s most articulate advocates. He then took his skills to Chateau Tanunda, where he continued to accumulate wine accolades.
In 2015, Stuey joined Soul Growers as Senior Winemaker, developing strong relationships with grape growers, driving their single vineyard program and highlighting individual sub regions. Again, as well as making wine, Stuey hosts lunches, tastings and wine events, building strong relationships with current and new customers, both domestic and internationally.
Stuey has been a member of the Wine Barossa committee since 2015, a presenter at Barossa Grounds events and a guest lecturer and mentor for University of Adelaide oenology and viticulture students. He was the first Barossa Ambassador to the Texas Grapevine Festival in 2016 and a mentor for New York’s Cornell University Wine Studies Program.
A significant contributor to his community, he is the Angaston Junior Cricket Coach and a trainer for the Angaston Football, Netball and Cricket Clubs.
A current member of the Angaston Community and Business Alliance and the Angaston A Team Mental Health Support Team, he has served on the Board of the Barossa Farmers Market and on the School Council of Good Sheppard.
A focused, intellectual winemaker who is a tireless promoter of the Barossa, Stuey’s enthusiasm and passion is infectious.
The Barons of Barossa are pleased to announce Stuart Bourne as the 2020 Barossa Winemaker of the Year.
